Who we sell to: While SmartShower was designed for special needs individuals, the decision to purchase SmartShower in many cases may rest with a person’s adult children or caregivers, a demographic driven by responsibility, long-term care planning, and a concern for the safety and well-being of their loved one. To dimension demand for SmartShower across these segments, I commissioned professional surveys through Pollfish, targeting senior respondents as end users and respondents aged 30 to 55 with an elderly, disabled or mobility-impaired family member or loved one (N=251 for each survey). A partnership with AARP will center on product endorsements, co-branding opportunities and member discounts. SmartShower will also seek alignment with Medicare through CMS, which provides health insurance coverage to individuals aged 65 and older. Falls among seniors represent a leading cause of injury-related hospitalizations and a significant financial burden for Medicare, costing billions annually in emergency room visits, surgeries, and long-term rehabilitation. By serving as a preventative solution that helps reduce fall-related incidents in the bathroom (the most common location for falls in the home among those 65 and older), SmartShower could qualify for subsidies under assistive or durable medical equipment programs. This offers value to Medicare beneficiaries and also aligns with CMS’s goals to improve outcomes and reduce avoidable healthcare expenditures. Looking ahead, the company plans to introduce a companion mobile app that tracks usage patterns (ie typical shower times, duration, and frequency) and shares derived insights with caregivers and family members. Integrated AI will analyze these patterns to flag early signs of declining health or mobility and elevated fall risk, transforming SmartShower from a preventative safety technology into a predictive safety platform.
