India is one of the world's largest exporters of services, and a growing share of that work is done by individuals and small firms: freelance developers, designers, consultants and agencies billing clients overseas.
If you're a freelancer in India, every payment from PayPal, Wise or Payoneer shows up slightly differently from your invoice, needs a FIRA, and has to be taxed right. Most people deal with it in a panic at filing time.
That’s why we’re proud to announce that we’ve backed Lumeo through LvlUp Labs.
Lumeo does all of it automatically. And it sells the same engine to accounting firms, so one firm can run hundreds of clients through it.
48,000+ people on the waitlist with zero ad spend.
When a freelancer in India receives money from abroad, a series of obligations follows.
The payment rarely matches the invoice exactly. Each rail deducts fees differently, converts currency at different rates and reports transactions in its own format. Reconciling them is tedious, and it gets harder with more clients and more rails.
Each inward payment also needs supporting documentation. The FIRA, the Foreign Inward Remittance Advice issued through the bank, is how earners show that income came from abroad. That matters for treating the work as an export of services under GST and for income tax.
Then the earner needs to calculate tax correctly and file.
Lumeo describes the gap clearly: payment apps stop at the FIRA, and tax tools start at filing season. The earner lives in between.
From our perspective, that's a meaningful position. Payment companies have little reason to handle reconciliation and tax. Tax software is built around an annual filing moment, not the continuous flow of payments through the year. The space in between is unowned, and it's where most of the friction sits.
Lumeo is compliance infrastructure for cross-border earners. It reconciles every payment across rails against invoices, generates the FIRA, computes tax and prefills the income tax return automatically.
The goal is that a freelancer stops thinking about compliance as a project and starts treating it as something that just happens.
Lumeo has two revenue lines, and both are recurring.
Direct to earners. Freelancers and exporters pay $6 a month (₹499) to have their payments reconciled and their compliance handled.
To accounting firms. Chartered accountant and professional-services firms can use the same engine as an API, at a flat $4 per active client per month plus integration. The company has built and is testing this with Grant Thornton Bharat and Manubhai & Shah LLP.
We think the combination is the interesting part. The direct product proves the engine works, and creates demand from earners who want it. The firm channel is how it scales. One firm onboarding its client base can bring hundreds of active users at once, through a relationship those clients already trust.
Lumeo was founded in 2026 and hasn't fully launched. The company reports more than 48,000 people on its waitlist, including nearly 8,000 in the U.S., without paid advertising.
A waitlist isn't revenue, and it should be read that way. But demand at that scale, from people who found the product on their own, is a strong signal about how widely the problem is felt.
There is still plenty to prove.
Accuracy has to be near perfect. Tax and compliance errors carry real consequences. Earners and firms will trust Lumeo only if it gets the details right.
Regulations change. Tax and foreign exchange rules evolve, so the engine has to keep up.
Waitlists have to convert. The real test is how many of those 48,000 people pay once the product launches.
Firms move carefully. Accounting firms will adopt infrastructure gradually and need confidence before routing client data through it.
We will be watching conversion from waitlist to paying users. Monthly retention. The number of active clients running through firm partners. Expansion beyond India-based earners. And how often reconciliation runs without human correction.
We think the more important question for cross-border earners isn't how they get paid. It's who handles everything that payment sets in motion.
Lumeo is building for that gap, with a model that sells to earners and the firms that serve them. That's why we backed them through LvlUp Labs.
Welcome to the LvlUp ecosystem, Lumeo.
